What is a sports degree?
If you are passionate about sport, whether taking part, watching or following a particular sport or team, a degree in sport may be a great route for you.
Many sports degrees will cover elements of all four of these, while others will be more specific. But whatever path you choose, don’t think you’ll just be physically playing sport all day. For while plenty of courses do involve sport activity, it’s your brain that will be getting the exercise, as most sports qualifications will involve theoretical alongside practical study.
Involves learning how to teach a range of sports such as football, cricket and basketball, as well as exercise techniques.
Involves studying biology and psychology and how they relate to sport. Sports science programs are quite scientific and mathematical.
Involves examining the role sport plays in society, such as promoting healthy living or the cultural importance of big events like the Olympics. Sports studies programs are theoretical, and include courses such as sociology.
Involves looking at the business side of sport, such as managing football teams or running a gym. Sports management requires many of the same skills required for business and management.
